My Wonderful Worlds

A Writer Is A World Trapped In A Person" - Victor Hugo | Writer ...
From "My Lifeblood ~ Writing"

So this post is probably overdue. I've talked about my characters a good bit, but not the worlds they live in. Which is a pity. Really. Because I put a lot of creativity into them.

These are really good reminders

So here goes:

Elger castle inspiration
From "The Dragon Books"
The Kingdom of Fire and Ice from The Dragons' Stones and The Dragon's Skin is a magical kingdom from an oral children's story.

It doesn't exist in one set place, but instead, it is reached by completing a quest. What is the quest? You have to unravel the story's riddles to learn that.

Characteristics of the Kingdom are (of course) fire and ice. These are seen through the coloring of natives and animals. A stand out feature would be trees that are formed from "ice wood" with "fire leaves".

From "Day and Night"
So Day and Night is set in another unusual Kingdom situation. Originally two separate nation, the Kingdoms of Day and Night were joined by marriage - sort of.

Unfortunately, the two Kingdoms have extremely different customs and hate each other because of that. No Night- dweller would ever trust a Daydweller, and vice versa.

Characteristics of the Kingdoms would include fear, separation, and fruit trees. Apples are a symbol of Day, and pomegranates are a symbol of Night.

From "Inkling Adventures"
Inkling Adventures is set in an alternative modern world. Close to ours in most ways, it has one secret difference. All the epic stories' characters are real, and they live in secret in what is commonly called "The Land".

The Land is loosely organized around a Council. The elves are the most heavily involved with it (more on elves in another post). The dwarves and wizards also participate on various levels.

Characteristics of The Land vary depending on a few things. in the older, more established places, it looks like typical settlements of whatever the dominate people group is. Some are hidden in the depths of human cities, though, and have only the faintest hints of its people's heritage.

And that's the majority of my main worlds. Right now, I still live in The Dragon Books the most. Day and Night is complete(?), and Inkling Adventures is still waiting for its overhaul. So we'll see how that world evolves with its story.

Please leave a comment below, telling me which world interests you the most and which one you want to hear more about. Maybe I'll do a post on that later.

Too many books or not enough bookshelves?
